35 Years Of Records – The Offspring’s Smash

What started out as a simple nod to Record Store Day, has given us a project. So we thought we would choose albums that we like from the past 35 years…albums that made an impact. Why? Why not…GEEZ! Yesterday, we started with R.E.M.’s 35 year old release, Reckoning.  So we found another album anniversary…The Offspring’s Smash. It’s been 25 years since the release of the band’s third studio album. At a time when grunge was King, this authentically punk record cut through in the face of bands like Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Green Day. Smash reached number four on the Billboard charts and sold an estimated eleven million copies worldwide. The album wasn’t short on singles either. “Come Out and Play,” “Self Esteem,” and “Gotta Get Away” blasted up the charts and received heavy rotation on MTV for their irreverent (and sometimes creepy) music videos.
