Georgia has over 70,000 miles of streams and rivers – and they need your help! Join 99X and the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper for our River Cleanup on Sunday August 1st. The first 30 volunteers who sign up in advance and participate in the cleanup will receive a ticket to see Jack Johnson, Friday August 20th at Aaron’s Amphitheatre at Lakewood. Each participant receives one ticket, so bring your friends!
Cleanup Details
Date: Sunday, August 1st
Time: 9AM to 12PM
Location: Tributary to the Chattahoochee located inside the perimeter. Exact location will be emailed one week prior to the event to participants selected by 99X.
Due to overwhelming response, we will not be accepting more registrants for the cleanup. If you were one of the first select group of people to register, we will be in touch with details soon.
Our waterways provide us with fresh drinking water, great recreational opportunities like canoeing and fishing, and they serve as a pleasant respite from our busy day-to-day lives. In 2009, we’ve estimated close to 80 TONS of trash was removed from our rivers and lakes by our volunteers… we can’t make a difference without you. This is your opportunity to help protect one of our most precious resources. Help us clean our rivers, streams, lakes and wetlands by volunteering.
What to Expect:
We will be picking up all kinds of trash and debris. Trash can consist of plastic bottles, balls (of every type), toys, tires, car parts, appliances, beds, sofas, and yes even the kitchen sink. We will at times be wading in the creek or walking along steep banks. Even a little bit of bush-whacking might be involved. Lifting of trash-laden garbage bags required.
Additional Information:
• All participants are required to sign a Liability Waiver prior to participation. This information also allows UCR to track volunteer hours and make each volunteer a member of UCR for one year.
• UCR will provide water coolers but please bring your own reusable water bottle. In addition, we will provide tools and trash bags.
• What to Wear: Wear clothes that you don't mind getting very dirty and WET. Wear old sneakers, water shoes or rubber boots (NO sandals) and bring work gloves if you’ve got them. We encourage you to wear long pants as some of the trash we pick up is broken glass and sharp/jagged materials. You might want to bring clean clothes and shoes to change into for your journey home.
• Child/Youth Participation: Minimum 13 years of age.
