The Voodoo Experience

October 24-26, New Orleans, LA

Since its 1999 debut, the VOODOO EXPERIENCE has called New Orleans home. Voodoo had humble beginnings as a one day festival in Tad Gormley Stadium with artists including Wyclef Jean, Ben Folds, Dr. John, and more. The following year expanded to 2 days and drew attention with a performance by Eminem, whose fame exploded just before the festival, and brought Voodoo to the attention of music fans from around the world to worship the music. The wide-ranging line-up of talent each year reflects the multitude of cultures that define New Orleans. In its nine-year run, the VOODOO EXPERIENCE has featured more than 450 performers and close to a million fans.

The VOODOO EXPERIENCE is known for its diverse blend of high quality artists from all musical genres, as well as up and coming critical favorites, along with a variety of artists who celebrate and honor the music of the region. Some past performers have included Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Iggy and the Stooges, Wilco, The Pixies, Sonic Youth, My Chemical Romance, Eminem, Green Day, Beastie Boys, Tool, Stone Temple Pilots, The Polyphonic Spree, Marilyn Manson, Steel Pulse, and 50 Cent. Additionally, Voodoo celebrates the incredible local New Orleans artists like Dr. John, The Original Meters, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Trombone Shorty, and Irma Thomas.

In 2005, in the wake of the devastation in New Orleans and despite the obvious obstacles, the VOODOO EXPERIENCE took place on October 29--two months to the day after 80% of the city was flooded by Hurricane Katrina. This first live event held in the city was staged as a free day-long event for the countless volunteers, first responders and members of armed services that worked tirelessly and dedicated their time and energies to the recovery of the region.

In 2006, the VOODOO EXPERIENCE began showcasing it’s personality in 3 distinct areas. Le Ritual, Le Flambeau and Le Carnival on six stages each of which highlights a unique side of the personality of New Orleans. In short, it solidified an environment that allowed Rage Against the Machine to play as the same time as Dr. John without causing anything but excitement. This year we are proud to present to you the Tenth Ritual in New Orleans’ City Park. Please Join us this October among the lagoons, live oak trees, tens of thousands of music fans in sharing the Experience of Voodoo.
